Middle School Student Council

About the MS Student Council

Do you want to make a difference this year?

Do you want school to be an even more fun and exciting place to be?

The Middle School Student Council plans and organizes events for middle school students.

Who Can Participate?

The Middle School Student Council consists of the students in Grades 5-8. Members are elected by their classmates (2 representatives for each homeroom). The executive committee is selected from the classroom representatives.

We are looking for some dynamic, enthusiastic, and committed Middle Schoolers to join the Student Council for this year. Qualities necessary for any member on student council are:

Leadership skills – Are you willing to lead committees and be a representative for your class?

Creative – Are you able to think of new and exciting activities and fund raisers for the student council?

Communicative – Are you able to share ideas with other student council members, your class and all of middle school?

Team player – You could be working with a team to generate ideas and organize events for the Student Council.

Responsibility – You may be responsible for running activities throughout the school and you must be reliable.

Commitment – This is a year long activity and if you volunteer now, you will be expected to come to all meetings for the remainder of the year. Meetings will be Tuesday after school so if this does not fit into your schedule, please do not volunteer.

Benefits of Participating

Students should consider this the ECA because it helps to build character, leadership, decision making, organization skills and responsibility.

When & Where Does The Club Meet?

Meeting are in Ms Chandler’s Room and the dates and times will be announced.

How to be a student council member...

 Grade 5th  through 8th – Representatives Only

?         Self selection—fill out application

?         Turn in application—reviewed by Ms. Chandler

Students will be voted on by Homeroom Only for Representative

 

 Grades 6th through 8th Elected Officers

?         Self selection—fill out application

?         Turn in application— to Ms. Chandler

?         Give speech to candidates

?         Candidates vote.

Up to 16 representatives from each grade level are on.

NJHS General Information
National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society is an organization created to recognize and encourage academic achievement while developing leadership and service. Desert Moon's chapter is open to seventh and eighth grade students whose GPA is 3.5 or higher and who have completed an application and essay for membership. Students meet on a weekly basis to plan and conduct school and community projects and service activities. NJHS members must sustain a minimum GPA of 3.5 throughout the year and participate in the organizations activities to maintain their membership.
