School Traffic Guidelines
The City of Surprise Police Department is one of the few agencies in the Valley with a specific plan for patrols in school areas. Good news for the safety of schools and our children. Please take a moment to review the following guidelines:
Officers will have zero tolerance for traffic violations, especially speeding.
ü The speed limit in school zones is 15 miles per hour.
ü There is absolutely NO passing in school zones, even if there is room to navigate around a vehicle. Drivers must not pass the rear bumper of a car in front of them while in a school zone. During peak times, traffic may back up on the street, but vehicles must remain in line. School staff will work to move traffic along at the curb to keep wait times at a minimum.
ü Drivers must stop in both directions when a school bus stops. The only exception is a vehicle moving in the opposite direction on a street with a raised median.
ü While in the traffic circle, the driver must stay in the vehicle.
ü No parking is permitted on North Greer Ranch Parkway – not even for kindergarten pick-up.
ü Please utilize all parking spaces in our parking lot during dismissal.
Many parents have found it beneficial to time their arrival to between 3:50 and 3:55. Traffic at that time is moving steadily, making the pick-up process easier, with less waiting.
Safety is paramount when it comes to our children. Please be patient, follow the guidelines, and allow plenty of time when dropping off or picking up students.
