Dysart Override Facts

Failure of the Dysart override renewal last November resulted in the district losing $15.5-$16 million to its budget, money that supports fine arts programs (art, music, band, PE), maintains smaller class sizes and impacts teacher salaries. The November override failure means:

- Eliminating or reducing K-12 band programs at each school
- Eliminating or reducing art classes at each school
- Eliminating or reducing music classes and choirs at each school
- Eliminating or reducing PE classes at each school
- Raising class sizes by 4-8 students per classroom at each school
- Potentially eliminating all day kindergarten
- Eliminating Dysart's K-3 reading program

The Dysart School District, as a result of the November election, must begin to remove $15.5-$16 million from its budget. Due to the override failure, the programs that the override supported must be impacted.

However, the Dysart Governing Board has called for a March 9 override election. If the March 9 override election is successful, the override cuts listed above will not occur.

- Passing the override will not raise taxes; only continue what is in place.
- The average cost to an owner of a home with full cash value of  $100,000 would be approximately $122 per year.
- The tax rates for residents from the Dysart District have declined for the last four years.

Open Enrollment

OPEN ENROLLMENT
2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR

The Dysart School District has begun to accept open enrollment applications for the 2010-2011 school year.  The application can be found online at www.dysart.org under the quick link, “Open Enrollment”.  The Dysart open enrollment application is only available online.  Parents who need access to an online computer may visit any district school or the Dysart Education Center to use the computer kiosks to access the application.  Open enrollment provides an opportunity for parents to request students attend a school outside of their home boundary.  Signature program enrollment for high school students is a separate process and not part of the open enrollment application.

At the November 18, 2009 Governing Board meeting, the Dysart Governing Board approved changes to the open enrollment policy, JFB. The changes to the open enrollment policy include a new deadline for submitting the applications. Open enrollment applications must now be submitted on or before the second Friday in February (February 12, 2010).

For more information about Dysart open enrollment, please visit www.dysart.org or call 623.876.7018.
