The Year of the Jaguar! (En Español aquí)

The start of a new school year is always such an exciting time. Students are anxious to get back to school and see their friends again; curious about whom their new teacher will be and ready to put  their new school supplies to work. Teachers are ready to meet their new students and parents, implement new ideas and bring students to new levels of learning! As for the principals and the office staff, well it’s pretty lonely in this building all summer without any students here to bright up our day. So we welcome you all to the best year yet at Thompson Ranch Elementary School! The 2010-2011 school year will definitely be The Year of the Jaguar!!

As a parent, you know that reading is important, and you probably feel frustrated when you child doesn’t want to read or tells you that reading is boring!   Now-a-days our children would rather watch TV, play video games, go on Facebook or do anything but read a book. Yet studies show that the more children read the better readers and writers they become. So one goal this year is to start a little Program here at Thompson Ranch called, “Read Around the Ranch”. We want every child to carry a reading book of their choice with them at all times. Please help use promote reading by making sure your child always has a book with them every day.

Here are some other goals for the upcoming school year; first we will use Kagan structures to increase student engagement by using practices that place students at the center of the learning process. Second we will work on making our culture stronger by changing practices that do not serve students. Finally, we will set high expectations for ourselves and for our students. Please stop by the office anytime you need more information about our goals for the year. Linda or I would love the opportunity to speak with you about our goals in more detail.

It’s going to be a great year! Thompson Jaguars are the Best, We Outshine all the Rest!!!
