Tools for Learning: Focus on Student Success
I want to inform everyone, especially parents and students, about the many "tools for learning" we have available at ARES. By doing this, I hope parents will support student learning at home whenever possible. I urge parents and students to take advantage of the following tools which support student learning:
1. Agenda Books for grades 1-8: these helpful planners teach students how to be responsible for their homework, their behavior, and all of their daily activities. As the saying goes, "failing to plan can mean planning to fail." I encourage all parents with students in grades 1-8 to check your child's Agenda Book every day!
2. School and District Website: make it a habit to check the district and school website on a regular basis. If you lack internet access, we have a parent computer for your use located in the front office at ARES. While you are on the ARES website, look at the teachers' websites for weekly updates. Our teachers are responsible for updating their website pages by Monday at 5 pm each week.
3. Study Island: go to studyisland.com for practice assignments in math and reading. When your child says, "But I don't have any homework..." first check their Agenda Book and then have them complete a Study Island skill builder.
4. Character Cards: as part of Character Counts we earned a grant last year for the Character Always program whereby students are responsible for keeping track of their positive and negative behavior on a two-sided card. Ask your child about their Character Card and use it as an incentive.
5. RTI (response to intervention): we have a school-wide intervention program with three tiers in order to provide academic and behavior support for every student. Part of Tier 2 is after school tutoring and even Saturday School.
6. Parent Portal: watch for this all-purpose district information tool which will allow access to grades and so much more!
