Dear Kingswood Families:
Welcome back to school! We still have a few weeks of summer rest and relaxation before we begin our new school year, but we are anxious to get started. It is hard to believe that in less than a month we will be starting our new school year! Things around here are definitely picking up speed. It is with sadness that I tell you Mr. Kibsey will no longer be here at Kingswood, but will be the Assistant Principal at Western Peaks instead. Our loss is their gain. Thank you, Mr. Kibsey, for all you contributed to Kingswood! We will be conducting interviews later this month for our new Assistant Principal and will keep you posted when they have been selected.
We have included, in this letter, your teacher assignment for the 2010-2011 year and invite you to attend our “Meet Your Teacher” night, August 5 from 5:15-7:15 p.m. This is an opportunity to visit your classroom and meet your new teacher before school starts. You should be hearing from your new teacher soon.
Please be sure to mark Thursday, August 19 on your calendar for “Kingswood Curriculum Night”. I am looking forward to sharing and celebrating with you on that night along withourclassroom teachers who will be presenting important information to you.
- K-3 classroom presentations will be from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
- Special area teacher introductions, data sharing and celebrations with Mrs. Timbrooks in the cafeteria will be from 6:00 – 6:45 p.m.
- 4-8 classroom presentations will be from 6:45 – 7:45 p.m.
Be sure to check our Kingswood website for calendar events and celebrations planned this year. I would like to extend a personal invitation to each of you to join in the partnership at Kingswood as we continue our tradition of excellence. There are many opportunities to get involved on our campus, including our Site Council Committee, Community Climate Committee and P.T.S.A. Please do not hesitate to call our office for more information. Throughout the school year our focus will remain on promoting a cooperative and collaborative environment which will help each student reach and understand his or her full potential.
It is my desire that our new school year start smoothly, so I would like to take a moment to explain our drop off and pick up procedures. Our parking lot requires special attention and I would like to thank you for your patience as we enter into a new year and become familiar with our procedures. Parking spaces are limited so all parent pick ups are encouraged to utilize the drop off/pick up lane at the front of our school. Please do not bring students to campus before 7:45 a.m. unless they are attending Den’s Club. There is no teacher supervision on campus prior to 7:45 a.m.
1. Parents who drop off and pick up students are requested to use the designated lane on the southwest side of campus. Enter from the east side and exit from the west. Please pull up as far as possible before stopping to drop or pick up students.
2. Students should exit and enter cars from the sidewalk closest to the building. Please help us keep students from walking between occupied vehicles whenever possible. To assist in providing for student safety and an efficient flow of traffic, a teacher is on duty in this area before and after school.
3. Cars should not park in the drop off lane at any time. The bus lane may not be used for student drop off /pick up at any time. Visitor parking at the front of school will not be accessible during drop off and pick up hours.
4. Please park your car in the parking lot if your child needs assistance carrying things to or from class. Do not leave your vehicle unattended at any time in the drop off lane.
5. Monday dismissal is at 2:00 p.m. Dismissal on all other days is at 3:00 p.m. Parents may begin lining up in cars in the pick up lane before dismissal. It may take a few minutes before the pick up lane begins to move. Please be patient and alert as the safety of our students is our first priority.
6. Be sure to check with your child’s teacher regarding the specific drop off/pick up procedures for your grade level.
This year our focus at Kingswood will remain on providing a safe, supportive, and respectful environment, which promotes maximum learning. It is my distinct privilege to serve as your principal. I look forward to working with you this year. Let’s make it our best ever!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Timbrooks
