Yes! Any website your students need is still accessible on a Linux computer.
In Firefox, where do my downloads go?
In the Downloads folder. This can be found by opening the Home folder icon on your desktop.
How do I add the printers for my site so I can print?
You won't have to. All printers for your site are automatically added upon your logon. If you know that a printer is missing, please place an IT Work Order so this can be corrected.
Can I print from Firefox?

When both teachers and students open Firefox, the default homepage is set to Dysart.org.
How do I get to the Intranet?
From dysart.org, there is a link to the Intranet. You may be prompted for your username and password.
Can I print my Google Docs in Firefox?
Yes, it auto converts to PDF which then prints without issue.
Where are my network drives?
When on Linux, you and your students will need to log onto the computer twice in order for your netowrk drives to map. If a user has been on that computer in the past, the drives will map on the first logon. You can easily tell if your drives mapped by looking for them on the desktop.
Where are my bookmarks?
Just as when your Windows computer is reimaged, you lose your bookmarks unless you back them up.
Below are the steps for importing your bookmarks from a Windows computer to Firefox on Linux.
1. On your Windows computer, open your web browser.
2. If your web browser is Firefox, Select Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks. The Bookmarks Manager opens. Click Import and Backup > Export HTML.… Save the bookmark.html file to your H: drive.
If your web browser is Internet Explorer, select File > Import and Export.… The Import/Export Wizard opens. Click Next. Select Export Favorites and click Next. Click Next again. Select Browse and save the file to your H: drive. Click Next and then Finish.
3. On your Linux computer, open Firefox.
4. Select Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks.
5. The Bookmarks Manager opens. Click Import and Backup > Import HTML…
6. The Import Wizard opens. Click Next.
7. Browse and open the bookmarks file from your H: drive. Click Open.
8. Close the Bookmarks Manager. Your bookmarks have now been imported from Windows to Linux.
Can I use Extended Desktop?
No, this version of Linux does not support extended desktop.
How can I check my voice mail?
From the email message, right-click the attached voice mail, select Save Link As. Specify where you want the message saved (Desktop, Downloads, H: drive, etc). Then minimize your email window, open the folder containing your voice mail, and double-click the file. Linux will open a media player and begin playing your voice mail. Adjust your volume as necessary.
How do I show United Streaming clips?
On the page with the video you'd like to stream for your students, click on the Stream Type menu (located just below the video's preview pane) and select Flash Video.
If you'd like to download the video to show students offline, click on the Download Type menu and select the Windows Media, 256Kbps setting. Then click the download icon by the clip or video you're wishing to download, click the Save File button on window that pops up. Minimize and Browse for the video file. Double-clicking the file will then open the video into Linux's default media player. Adjust your volume as necessary.
Why can't I log onto my Linux computer?
Below are steps to take before placing an IT Work Order or calling the Help Desk:
1. Attempt 3-5 times logging onto the laptop.
2. Try using title case for your username. e.g. Bubba.Jones vs bubba.jones.
If neither of these steps help, please place an IT Work Order.
Can I use my AverMedia document camera software?
Not at this time. You will need to use the VGA cabling to route your document camera video as opposed to the USB cable and AverMedia software.
Can I use my web cam as a document camera?
Yes! Connect the webcam with the supplied USB cable. Then click on START, PROGRAMS, SOUND & VIDEO, CHEESE WEBCAM BOOTH. Using this program, you'll be able to stream the video feed onto your computer and through your projector, you can take snapshots, and record video. NOTE: Your computer may not be able to record video. Also, there is a full-screen option (F11) that will maximize the webcam's image.
Can I install my own fonts?
Yes! Just follow the steps below.
1. Download the font to your desktop. You need to make sure it's a TrueType font.
2. From the desktop, open COMPUTER.
3. Open FILESYSTEM
4. Open USR
5. Open SHARE
6. Open FONTS
7. Click on FILE at the top and select CREATE FOLDER.
8. Name the folder. Do NOT use spaces when naming the folder.
9. Open the new folder.
10. Now open the folder holding your font from the desktop. It might be a zipped folder. It might just be the font itself.
11. Click and drag (or copy and paste) the font(s) themselves into the newly created and named folder.
12. Restart your computer. Upon restart, your fonts will be available in the font menu in Open Office.

On a Linux computer, students will need to login as themselves and NOT as the school lookup account. Once a student or staff member has logged on, they will find the Library Lookup shortcut in the Dysart Toolkit.

Yes! Connect the USB device and the mouse/keyboard should work without needing any extra drivers. If you need support with this, please contact your site-assigned trainer or submit a work order for tech support.
How do I create a shortcut to a website on my desktop?
1. Right-click on the desktop and select CREATE LAUNCHER.
2. In the Name box, type the website you want to go to or the activity they'll be doing (ex: Build a Word or Starfall.com).
3. In the command box, type "firefox" and then a space and then the website address. You can paste this in so you don't have to retype it all. (ex: firefox http://www.vocabulary.co.il/syllables/primary/syllables-primary-math/)
4. Click OK and you're done.
